About
This artist studio, designed for Donald Judd, reflects his minimalist ethos through clean lines and industrial materials like plywood, metal, and Plexiglas. Known for exploring space, perception, and light, Judd uses the studio as a retreat to reflect and reconnect with nature. Expansive glazing, dense landscaping, and generous outdoor space support this vision. As one of my first deep dives into the design process, this project taught me the value of analysis and diagramming in shaping thoughtful, intentional spaces.
Artist Studio
The studio is set in the mountains overlooking a cliff and river, and uses the natural typography to create a stepped down space. Each space becomes defined by its level, from the work space to lounge, and needing with a glass floor that allows you to see through to the river. While this space is meant for artist work, having a lounge allows for personal reflection or a bit of entertaining.
